“Today I inked my skin with your name // Not because I like the look and not because I love you // I got a tattoo because I enjoy the feeling of knowing it will never leave me even if you decide to.” I definitely recommend this book for anyone dealing with love, heartbreak, and laying awake at night wondering what could of been – also for those learning self-love & not putting their heart and worth in the hands of another human being. Campbell’s poetry deals explicitly with the need to be accepted and even desired by one’s peers, which is a feeling we all remember from high school. When you consider that the author is only eighteen when this book was published, you begin viewing these poems through a different lens looking at her poetry through the context of age inspires a sense nostalgia. Makenzie is currently pursuing a psychology degree at Washington State. Following the success of her two collections, 2am Thoughts and Nineteen, her newest collection, Rooms of the Mind, is brought to life. Use features like bookmarks, note taking and highlighting while reading Deep Words. Makenzie Campbell grew up in the Pacific Northwest and has been expressing herself through poetry since grade school.
